The blade ferrule (habaki) is also made of nickel silver and is elaborately handcrafted. The handle design follows traditional Japanese craftsmanship: an inlay of real ray skin (samé) ensures stability, while the black silk cord winding provides a secure and comfortable grip. The skilfully designed menuki, a decorative element under the handle winding, gives the sword additional character.
